1st and 2nd Flatiron Trail Access During Closures

To improve trail conditions, OSMP Trail Crews will be conducting repair efforts on the 1st/2nd Flatiron Trail over the next 3-5 years.  Much of the repair work includes rebuilding stone structures within the stacked-switchback trail system and requires moving large stones. Providing climbing access while maintaining a safe visitor experience and staff work space is paramount. Although the trail will be closed two days per week, rock climbers will be allowed to hike DOWN  through the construction zone during these closures.

The trail will be closed 8 AM – 4:30 PM on Wednesdays and Thursdays from July 31 through September 28. The placement of the closure will allow for access to the Spy Trail and enables climbers to ascend the 1st Flatiron and hike down the 1st/2nd Flatiron Trail.  Intermittent traffic stops and delays will, however, take place within the route for the safety of all involved. The trail closure will begin at the junction of the 1st/2nd hiking trail and the 1st Flatiron climbing access (bridge).
