Trail Volunteer Day – First Flatiron, September 24

The Flatirons Climbing Council (FCC) in association with City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks (OSMP) will be hosting a volunteer trail day on Saturday, September 24 (National Public Lands Day) to construct fencing and repair the climbing access trail including the staircase at the base of the First Flatiron.

The meeting point will be at the New Vista High School Parking lot (700 20th St.) between 8:00 and 8:30am and from there volunteers will take the free shuttle bus to Chautauqua Park. The group will then once more reassemble at the Chautauqua Ranger Cottage at 9:00am to pick up field tools and hike to the site.

An FCC shirt will be handed out to volunteers and lunch will be provided. We require that volunteers bring closed toe footwear and have appropriate clothing for conditions (sun/rain, etc.). Work gloves and safety glasses will be provided for those that do not have them. Please bring sunscreen and sufficient water to last the day.

The trail work will encompass the use of landscaping tools, moving wooden fencing materials, moving rocks and dirt and other typical activities associated with trail building and repairs. Work will be supervised by OSMP’s professional trail crew and all equipment and tools will be provided by OSMP.
