OSMP/FCC Trail Day at The Slab: Trip Report
The local climbing and outdoor community got in some much-needed stewardship time last Saturday, closing social trails and improving staging areas at The Slab. This steep sport-climbing area gets shade in summer and despite a steady 2 mile uphill approach sees plenty of visits much of the year.
The OSMP trail crew reminded us to please do not hurt ourselves or others with tools or anything else. Then a brisk and warm hike up to Fern Canyon followed.
Once there, we split up into groups and got to work. In the photo, long-time Flatirons veteran Steve A. looks over a stone step on the trail to the upper half of The Slab. We were fortunate to have shade most of the time on a 90+ degree day!
Everyone taking a well-earned break with delicious lunches from Snarfs provided by OSMP.
Thanks to everyone who participated! There will be another opportunity coming up in the fall.
Watch this space for news about the upcoming Flagstaff Trash Bash! On September 3, we will clean up the mountain, have a great dinner from Sherpas, win raffle prizes, bid on awesome outdoor items in our online auction, and hear from guest speaker Simon Testa, author of an indispensable guide to scrambling in the Flatirons.
